13th May 2013 - Band Fourth at Grand Shield

The band took part in the Grand Shield contest in Blackpool over the weekend, and were hoping to bounce straight back up into the British Open, but it was not to be. Conductor David Roberts said "I was thrilled with the performance, it was the best we've played for a couple of years. We couldn't have done any more. I'm disappointed for everyone connected with the band. I was overwhelmed with comments before the result from people who thought we had won and many comments of shock after we came out fourth. On another day, with different judges, we could have won the contest with a performance like that." Contest Report

30th April 2013 - Band Welcomes Back Rebecca Marshall

The band would like to welcome back Rebecca Marshall to the cornet section. Rebecca played with the band for many years before leaving to take up a seat at Black Dyke with her husband Richard. Having recently had her second child, Rebecca asked to join once more. David Roberts said, "It's great to have Rebecca back, she had lots of success with the band and has a great attitude. She returns with even more experience after her time at Dyke. It is always pleasing when someone wants to come back."

4th March 2013 - Band Fourth at Yorkshire Area

The band took part in the Yorkshire Area Contest at Bradford St. George's Hall yesterday, and narrowly missed out on qualifying for a sixth successive year. The band came fourth with a top three of Carlton Main, Brighouse and Grimethorpe who will all go on to represent Yorkshire at the National Finals in October. This fine result puts us in the prizes for the tenth year in a row and we received great feedback from the adjudicators for the quality sound made by the band. We beat the current European Champions Black Dyke who were placed sixth. Conductor David Roberts said "I was a touch frustrated as I felt the band could have played better with a bit more composure. I was, however, delighted with the work the band put in for the contest and the future is very bright as the attitude and team spirit are very strong."
