29th December 2010 - Christmas Day
The band were out and about as usual on Christmas Morning, entertaining around the Rothwell district. This year had a record 17 players taking part, with eight supporters helping out with driving duties.
20th December 2010 - Band On Aled Jones Show Again
The band were again featured on the Aled Jones show, Good Morning Sunday, this week 19th December. The stand in presenter, Hardeep Singh Kohli, played Silent Night from our Christmas Collection CD.
19th December 2010 - Christmas Concerts A Great Success
The band have played in six Christmas Concerts this year to packed audiences. Great concerts were given at Leeds Parish Church with the St Peters Singers, Leeds College of Music Choral Society and the Choir of the Parish Church whilst the event at Bradford St George's Hall featured Bradford Festival Choral Society, Sandal School Choir and Bradford Youth Choir. The Lord Mayor's Carol concerts at Leeds Town Hall were enjoyed by over 2000 people. These concerts were all a fantastic success as was our own local sell out concerts. This was a great end to a wonderful year for the band which saw consistently high results in all major competitions.
Some of the band will be playing carols at the Rothwell Council Offices on Christmas Eve, and the band will be out and about on Christmas Day as normal.
We wish all our friends and supporters a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
11th December 2010 - Band Awards
The band last night held their annual dinner and awards ceremony. The major prizes went to Vikki Holland for Most Improved Player, Catherine Roberts for Performance of the Year and Jack Telfer for Player's Player of the Year. Thanks must go to Ed and Jack for their hard work presenting, and to everyone who helped make the evening a success. A good time was had by all.
2nd December 2010 - Christmas Concerts Go Ahead
Our Christmas Concerts at the Blackburn Hall tomorrow and Saturday will go ahead as planned, despite the weather. There are a very limited number of tickets to purchase on the door, but the concerts are both mostly sold out.
22nd November 2010 - Band Eighth At Brass In Concert
The band were placed eighth at this year's Brass in Concert contest, held in the Sage Gateshead yesterday.
Our programme was: Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Tour de Band, March: Simoraine, Estrellita featuring Andy Marsh on solo Euphonium, Eliza Doolittle v Fats Waller and Fantaisie Brilliante from On the Shoulders of Giants.
8th November 2010 - Rothwell Principal Second At British Open Solo Contest
The band send their congratulations to their principal cornet James McCabe, after he came second at the British Open Solo contest yesterday. We also send a well done over to Belgian Jef Vermeiren on his third place. Jef has played next to James at many contests this year.
12th October 2010 - Band Featured On Aled Jones' Show On Radio 2
The band were featured on Aled Jones show "Good Morning Sunday" early Sunday Morning. Aled played "All I Ask Of You" from the band's new CD Stage and Screen. Email us to order your copy of the CD.
10th October 2010 - Band Fourth At Albert Hall
Yesterday the band took part in the national finals at the Royal Albert Hall. In a repeat of last year's result the band were placed an excellent fourth. This means that we have again prequalified for the 2011 finals.
16th September 2010 - New CD Arrived!
Our new CD Stage and Screen has just arrived. More details about the CD can be found here. Those of you that have pre-ordered will be receiving them in the next couple of days.

11th September 2010 - David Roberts In Denmark
Rothwell conductor David Roberts is currently out in Denmark taking Svogerslev Blaeserne to the Danish National contest. This is David's debut in Denmark and the band wish him all the best.
4th September 2010 - Band Placed Sixth At Open
The band today took part in the British Open contest at Symphony Hall in Birmingham. The band had a great day and were placed sixth. The winners of the contest were Tredegar, who had only just qualified for the contest by winning the Grand Shield.
2nd September 2010 - New CD Released Soon
Our new CD is now being manufactured in Germany and should be with us shortly. For those of you that pre-ordered, your wait will soon be over! Further details will follow once we have the CDs back ready to sell.
7th July 2010 - Collier Replaced By Peacock
Former Grimethorpe and Brighouse player Steve Peacock has joined the band this week on Eb bass. We look forward to him having a long and happy stay. Nick Collier was moved to Oxford to start his career there but will be keeping in touch. We thank him for his dedication to the band.
28th June 2010 - Death Of Tracey Harrison
The band are saddened to announce the death of Tracey Harrison, one of their former soprano cornet players. Tracey died aged only 39 and she leaves an 11 year old son. Conductor David Roberts said, "It puts everything into perspective: banding, contesting, the lot. It's knocked me for six and players past and present are very upset." The band's thoughts are with the family at this time. The funeral will be on 12th July.
27th June 2010 - Band Placed Third At English Nationals
Yesterday, the band competed in the English Nationals in Preston, and were placed a creditable third. The test piece was the fiendishly difficult Eden by John Pickard and the title went to the Fairey Band under Russell Gray, the same conductor who won on this piece with Leyland at the National Finals in 2005.
14th June 2010 - Weddings Galore
The band will be breaking up for their summer holidays on July 7th, returning to play at the Great Yorkshire Show and the Weddings of Andy Marsh (July 23rd) and Ben Ridgeon (August 9th). We are looking forward to these dates and congratulate Andy and Ben. We would also like to congratulate Andy and Sally Bontoft who were recently married, and Les McCormack who tied the knot in early May.
12th June 2010 - New CD Out Soon
Our new CD of music from stage and screen will be released shortly, featuring top music from shows such as Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera and Cats and from films including Braveheart, Dances with Wolves and the Magnificent 7. It promises to be very popular.

10th June 2010 - Roberts Booked By Norwegian Champions
After successfully directing Sandefjorde Brass Symposium to victory in the Norwegian Championships, Dave Roberts has been booked by the band for next year's finals in Bergen as the band return to the Elite Division in February. Dave said "I'm delighted to accept the invite, it was great to win and see what it meant to the players."
31st May 2010 - Success At Whit Friday
The band had a good night out on Whit Friday, taking the third place overall in Saddleworth and taking home about £3,600. The band managed eight contests and were fourth at Delph, third at Greenfield and Lees & Springhead, second at Grotton and first at Diggle and Dobcross.
8th May 2010 - Beer Festival Makes £162
The band would like to thank everyone who attended their recent mini beer festival. £162 was made for band funds. We would also like to thank Lewys and Ed for their sterling work throughout the evening.
8th March 2010 - Band Placed Third At Yorkshire Area
The band yesterday defended their 2009 Yorkshire Area title and were placed third overall. In a late night's contesting (we left the hall at about 11.30pm!) the band's performance went down well in the hall, being greeted by a rousing cheer at the end. The title went to Brighouse, with Carlton Main second and Black Dyke fourth. As we have already pre-qualified for London after coming in the top four last year, this means that Yorkshire will be represented by all four of these bands at the Albert Hall in October.
7th February 2010 - Dave Triumphant In Norway
This weekend, the band's conductor David Roberts took the Sandefjord band to the Norwegian National Championships, playing Eden. After a stunning performance on stage, the band were placed first, becoming the First Section National Champions. Rothwell Temperance Band send their congratulations to Sandefjord. 4th January 2010 - Happy New Year
The band would like to wish all their supporters a very happy New Year. We are looking forward to the challenges that 2010 brings, including the defence of our Yorkshire Area title.
Over Christmas the band had a great time, playing for several carolling events including the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols at Rothwell Church. The band lost three players for this event due to the snow, but we must send our thanks to Craig Gaskell who fought his way through from Scarborough to play.
Christmas morning saw the band playing around Rothwell. There was a massive turn out of players for this including Ed Hodkin who brought his new baby.
